The mothers selected are registered for the Ti Manman Cheri programme and on Digicel’s Tcho Tcho mobile money service in order to receive a payment from the Government of 500 gourdes. The programme is targeting 5,000 women victims of Isaac and Digicel has to date provided at least 500 women with a free Digicel mobile phone to use the service from registration locations in Cite Soleil with more planned in Croix des Bouquets. Once registered, the beneficiaries will simply visit any one of several hundred Tcho Tcho Mobile agents nationwide to make cash withdrawals.
Digicel Haiti CEO, Damian Blackburn, attended the launch registration event in Cite Soleil on Sunday 26th August with President Martelly, Prime Minister Lamothe and Director of the Fonds d’Assistance Economique et Sociale (the Economic and Social Assistance Fund), Klaus Eberwein
Damian Blackburn commented; “Digicel is always looking for ways to support the Haitian people and help them move forward in a positive way. Digicel is pleased to support the Haitian Government in this project to provide relief to Haitian mothers following the devastation caused to the country by Tropical Storm Isaac. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Tcho Tcho Mobile team which has been working night and day with the Government to ensure that mothers can receive this much needed support.“
