The project is expected to be managed through stakeholder partnerships, said one official.
In preparation for the implementation, organizers have scheduled a Community Consultation that will take place at the Half Way Tree Community Centre, on Monday, 16th January, 2012, at 7.00 p.m. and is open to all residents of Halfway Tree. It forms part of NEMA’s on-going disaster mitigation efforts.
The project also seeks to facilitate the development of local capacities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
An official involved in the project has explained, “The project recognizes that disasters can have a more significant impact at the community level, that communities may be isolated and inaccessible after a disaster, and that it is at the community level that invariably first response activities are carried out. In this regard it is essential that communities be trained in all aspects of disaster management in order to have a coherent response.”
