Dominica’s Sissreou Singers to perform at benefit concert

The Sixth Form Sissreou Singers is a Dominican folk choir that came into being 21 years ago and performs multiple genres of music across the island.

The name is based on the fact that the group was born out of the school choir at Dominica’s Convent High School. After graduation, some of the members wanted a way to continue singing together so with a little help from the choirs now director, Pearle Christian, they formed the Sixth Form Sisserou Singers.

sis.566A contingent of 36 singers and others affiliated with the choir is expected to arrive in Antigua on October 1, ahead of the concert at the Tim O’Rielly Auditorium on October 3.

The choir was scheduled to visit Antigua as part of an ambassadorial cultural exchange programme, but after the devastation wrought by Tropical Storm Erika, Director of Culture, Gilbert Laudat said he decided to merge the choir’s concert with the efforts put on by the Dominica Antigua Relief Fund (DARF).

Proceeds from the event will be sent to Dominica to assist with the country’s ongoing restoration.
