Double Header in CFU Football Olympic Qualifiers Thursday Night

The home team will have to try to get pass the likes of powerful teams like Haiti, St. Lucia and Antigua & Barbuda.

The tournament is due to start with a double header, featuring Antigua & Haiti in the first match at 6:00pm, followed at 8:00pm by the encounter between hosts St. Kitts & Nevis and St. Lucia.

St. Kitts & Nevis is due to take on Antigua & Barbuda on Saturday night at 8:00pm, after St. Lucia and Haiti would have met earlier at 6:00pm.

The Group D matches will conclude on Monday 23rd July, when Antigua and St. Lucia meet at 6:00pm followed by the clash between Haiti and St. Kitts & Nevis, at 8:00pm.

All teams have expressed confidence in the ability of the players for the competition and will be doing all that is necessary to secure victory, but at the same time, they have equally indicated that they have no intention of becoming complacent, recognizing the skills of the other competition nations.

Local organizers are hoping that the huge crowds that supported the Final Four Championships of the St. Kitts & Nevis Premier League, a few weeks ago, will again turn out to provide the much needed boost the event.

The football association has developed a series of packages for the expected patrons; and these include: a stadium hospitality package for all 3 days, for $80, stadium ticket for 1 night in the covered section is $30; uncovered section of the stadium is $25; bleachers tickets are $20 and standing room tickets are 15.

The St. Kitts & Nevis team has included 5 college graduates in their squad and similar selections have been made in the squads from Antigua, which has a number of players who are based in England as well as a few who are engaged in professional leagues. There are 4 players on the St. Lucia side who have been known to play in Trinidad.

Most of the players on the St. Kitts & Nevis team have played together in the local league and are very familiar with each other’s style, said an official of the management of the squad. This should be very helpful, said the official, in building team work for the local side.
