Dr Drew calls on young men to choose peace, life and love

Dr Drew issued the call in a statement following the Federation’s 16th murder for 2016.

“I was present at the scene of a murder in Cayon yesterday (Monday). Not many things bring tears to my eyes, but to see a young lifeless body on the pavement with bullet wounds and the fresh smell of human blood was overwhelming. I take this opportunity to appeal to the young men throughout this country to choose peace, life and love,” said Dr Drew, who issued a personal appeal.

“To the people of Keys and Cayon who are hurting, I pray for peace. To the family of this young man (Everette Battice from Keys Village), may God keep you in His embrace,” the Cuban and US trained medical practitioner said.

“To our country let us work to rid ourselves of this scourge. Everybody must do his or her part because as little as it may seem, it can help in bringing about a collective effort,” he added.

“To the government , crime was made a political football in the last elections .This was the wrong approach . The solution must be multi- faceted and all must be involved,” said Dr Drew, who is also the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party caretaker for St Christopher 8.

Dr. Drew also expressed his dissatisfaction over a BBC NewsDay Report on Monday which labelled St. Kitts and Nevis the ‘murder capital of the world and the most dangerous place to live on earth.’

“As a proud Kittitian-Nevisian, I take offense to this statement regardless of which government is in power. The vast majority of our people are good people, not murderers,” he stated.

He asked the people of St Kitts and Nevis “to join me in full support for the country and especially for the communities of Keys and Cayon at this moment.”
