ECCB pushes for entrepreneurs in App development in upcoming hackathon

The ECCB, in collaboration with Quentessence Consulting and e-Caribbean will hold an OECS-wide forum, August 13 through 15, called, OECS Business Solutions Think Tank and Hackathon. According to information from the ECCB, the event “brings together persons of diverse experiences and expertise to produce real functioning IT applications – from concept, to working prototype, to final product – that address real-world challenges related to the OECS”.

The ECCB invitation to potential registrants encourages individuals “to form part of teams and spend a weekend building something for the greater good”. The teams are encouraged to build an application that has the potential to be commercially viable, the information states.

During the opening of the forum, participants will be addressed by Sir K. Dwight Venner, the governor of the ECCB, Michel Williams, the director/partner of Navigant Consulting Services, Dominica, Telojo “Telly” Onu, the managing director, Quintessence Consulting Inc., St Kitts and Nevis and by Sharon Simmons, the CEO I Gotem (Crime Reporting Application), also of St Kitts and Nevis.

According to research information, the four top business challenges in the OECS relates to Market Research, the Universal View of Customers and Multi-channel Customer Support, Supply Chain Management and Facilities Management.

Finding solutions to OECS business challenges and opportunities via IT Apps could help to get a new economic sector jump-started. The ECCB is doing its part through this forum that will bring ideas and actions together to create practical IT App based solutions that participants can pursue.

The ECCB is putting up cash prizes and other rewards for the various competing teams. The winning group will get $3,500; 2nd $2,500 and 3rd $1,000. Over 100 persons from OECS member countries have already registered. They include persons who are IT students and technocrats, teachers, business owners and business representatives.

All eight participating member countries will be linked via teleconferencing centered at the ECCB. Registration remains open for persons from St. Kitts and Nevis, but will close on the 11th August.

The forum opening will take place at the Maltin Moving Conference Centre, ECCB Headquarters, starting at 1 p.m.
