EFA Provides Local Access to Global Education

The workshop focused on helping participants to understand the integrative nature of their personal lives and their ability to be successful as students.  Areas covered included:

  • Understanding the mind body connection
  • Knowing the value of being Conscious: of the thoughts that fill our mind space,
  • your breathing and  how it impacts your health,
  • Learning how the “law of attraction” –an energy force that controls our life can be used to our advantage.
  • The need to expand self-awareness in areas such as self-care, communication and self- assessments

Students learned some meditative and breathing techniques that they could utilize during periods requiring calm.

When asked what aspect(s) of the workshop were the most valuable to them, one student said “Being in such an environment with people who share some of the same concerns and finding solutions for them. Also, trying to implement the tips and tricks shared by Dr. Jones“.  Another said “How to care for the different aspects of your well- being; mind, body and spirit, was the most valuable because I can now pay special attention to them so that success is achieved”.

Two further sessions will be held in July, both focused on the “Art of Test Taking”.  These will include general test taking guidelines, how to be prepared, plan and use your allotted time, how to finish early and have time for review, how to evaluate and refine individual strategy.  The 19th July targets Ashworth College students and will focus on the art of multiple choice strategies; while the 25th July is designed for the University of Leicester students who will learn how to examine and evaluate essay time questions and case studies for maximum results.

Leah Sahely of EFA stated “EFA believes that such sessions provide vital support to students, and complement the other learning resources and support provided by our academic partners.  Distance learning is a challenging process and many persons have never studied outside of a traditional classroom setting.  Our objective is to bridge the gap and ensure students can successfully complete their studies by distance learning.  We therefore actively encourage  all of our students to take advantage of these local sessions as not only are they instructive and applicable to their studies, but they also provide them with the opportunity to meet and interact with other distance learning students”.
