This Unit will be responsible for developing a National EPA Implementation Road Map and Action Plan, after extensive consultations with the relevant stakeholders.

As a result of the establishment of the unit the government is also recruiting individuals for the positions for an Implementation Project Coordinator and a Trade Development Officer.

The EPA Implementation Project Coordinator is expected to work closely with and report to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade in developing a Road Map and the implementation of the Action Plan for the unit.

The Caribbean Development Bank as the result of a grant provided by the Caribbean Aid for Trade and Regional Integration Trust Fund (CARTFund), which is financed by the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) will be funding the unit and will receive regular development reports.

The EPA Trade Development Officer is responsible for assisting the EPA Implementation Coordinator with his/her duties and assist with the development of the Road Map, the Action Plan and Communications Plan.

A Communications Plan to increase awareness of the EPA as well as a Resource Mobilization Plan will also have to be initiated.

The EPA Implementation Project Coordinator and EPA Trade Development Officer will both be chosen on the necessary level of qualifications and experience as well as from submitted applications to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade by the deadline of September 30, 2011.

St. Kitts and Nevis signed on to the Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM)-European Community (EC) EPA in 2008, and this agreement along with the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) allows the Federation to obtain significant trade and investment opportunities for local businesses.
