Longoria retweeted a comment made by the user @imnotyuri, which stated “I have no idea why any woman/minority can vote for Romney. You have to be stupid to vote for such a racist/misogynistic twat.”
The former Desperate Housewives star has since taken down the retweet, but she did offend supporters of the Romney campaign.
The Huffington Post reports that Longoria got criticism from an article posted on the Washington Examiner, a series of tweets posted by pundit Michelle Malkin and The Café Con Leche Republicans, which is a Latino conservative group.
Longoria has responded to the backlash, posting on her WhoSay page, “And for the record I have never personally called any conservative women stupid. I think u are all beautiful and strong and smart! I appreciate those conservative women who have sent me some great articles! I respect u, stay involved!”
She also apologized, tweeting “I use Twitter as a platform for all Americans and their opinions. Sorry if people were offended by retweet. Obviously not my words or my personal view. I respect all Americans #FreedomOfSpeech.”
