Facebook Founder to Donate $100 million to Schools

Now Zuckerberg has decided to share some of that vast wealth by donating $100 million to troubled schools in Newark, New Jersey. Reports have confirmed that he will make the donation on the Oprah Winfrey show, scheduled to air on Friday 24th September.

The 26 year old Zuckerberg will be joined by New Jersey’s governor Chris Christie and Mayor Cory Booker. The donation actually is equal to an eight of the city’s education budget.

During the past year, his net worth increased significantly, by some 245%, as Facebook’s market value moved to $23 billion.

This donation is said to be designed to help quiet the increasing criticism about his poor record of giving back to his community. He has also been charged of stealing the original idea for the site from fellow students, whose emails he was accused of hacking.

Zuckerberg is said to have created the social network to get invited to exclusive parties and to meet girls.

Oprah Winfrey remains the only black person on the list, at 130 with $2.7 billion, while Bill Gates has regained his position as number one.
