On Saturday, 6th September, 2014, people across Nevis and sister-island St. Kitts were rocked by the reports that a young school girl had lost her life at the hands of someone who some reports are now suggesting may have also harmed her in other ways before her death.
Speaking on Saturday, Commissioner of Police, CG Walwyn promised “I will seek the help of the FBI in bringing this person to justice. As a people, this killing has touched the souls of all of us; this is not the time to keep quiet.”
Walwyn also called on the public to play their part in finding the culprit, and he urged citizens with information to call crime stoppers at 1-800-8477. “Please call Superintendent Mitchell at 869 6629336 if you have any further information. Let us work together and bring this miscreant to justice.”
“Some of you have whatsapped me with the name of a suspect and I assure you that the police are out looking for him right now,” stated Walwyn.
But the Commissioner also asked for calm if the suspect is found by the public before the police find him. “Please let justice be done. I am a father of four daughters and while I understand what anger causes men to do, I urge you, please do not take the law into your own hands,” appealed the chief cop.
Walwyn said the Police Force “is investigating the heinous death of one of our children. As Commissioner of Police I take it personal when one of our children is hurt.”
In offering his condolences Walwyn said “As a people, this killing has touched the souls of all of us; this is not the time to keep quiet.”
