Confirmed reports which reached this publication indicate that 22-year-old Gary Smithen of BrownHill was the victim of a shooting incident which took place sometime before 3:00 at Pennyless Tyre Repairs which is located at Pump Road, Stoney Grove.
MiyVue.com understands that Smithen worked at the establishment, which was the venue of the gun attack.
Head of the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Inspector Hilroy Brandy, told this media house that according to information he received, an individual entered the compound and shot Smithen in the chest.
A police press release informed that the individual who entered was masked and that the individual shot Smithen “multiple times”.
The wounded man was rushed to the Alexandra Hospital to undergo emergency medical treatment, but succumbed to his injuries while there.
MiyVue.com understands that an autopsy is expected to be performed on Smithen’s remains sometime this evening.
Inspector Brandy indicated that, at press time, no suspects were in custody in relation to that incident and he made an appeal for persons with information pertinent to the solving of that crime, to provide assistance to the police.
“Anybody who could assist the police in anyway, feel well to contact the Charlestown Police Station at 469-5354 or 469-5391/92. Confidentiality will be maintained and persons wanting to give information anonymously can do so. If you are not comfortable speaking with the police, feel free to contact someone who can bring the information to the police.
“Crime and violence must stop! We cannot be afraid. We must come forward and give information and put a stop to this nonsense and madness,” Brandy expressed.
His death brings to seven, the number of murders to have occurred within the Federation for the year, the last four of which transpired with the past five days.
