Police on the island have also confirmed that they are looking for a person of interest in relation to the incident that occurred last evening.
Though the police have not released much information on the matter they have indicated that a young woman whose name is being withheld at this time was injured in her home.
A Police release stated that the victim underwent surgery for her injury and is listed in stable condition.
Meanwhile in an official statement the Nevis Island Administration on Tuesday afternoon went as far as to strongly condemned the recent spate of gun violence and other serious crimes which have caused great concern and suffering among the people of Nevis.
The Victim has been described by the NIA as a female student of the Medical University of the Americas (MUA). She was said to have been in her apartment at the time of the attack.
The Government has called on all the people of Nevis to condemn, in the strongest possible terms, this criminal activity and all such violence and crime, which have the potential to undermine the peace and security in Nevis.
The Administration also called on all citizens and residents to give their full cooperation to the police who are undertaking serious investigations of these recent crimes to bring the perpetrators to justice.
They further encouraged all citizens and residents to become part of the fight against crime and violence as it is the duty of each and every one of us to do all in our power to preserve peace, security and the safety of our citizens and our visitors in this our island paradise.
