The attractive and colourful costumes for the “Splash of Purple” J’ouvert troupe and the “Purple Your Way” carnival troupe were unveiled before a large crowd which eagerly anticipated the reveal.
Displayed by models of Movado Model Agency, the female costumes, which some have described as “sexy”, “beautiful” and “stunning”, featured headdresses, figure-hugging pieces and accessories for the arms and legs while the male costumes featured decorated headdresses and trunk-like trousers.
Divided into seven sections, patrons and would-be Fhunn-Vybers are offered the opportunity to not only enjoy themselves at the street festivities but also to celebrate and enjoy the colour purple, their way. The sections, as explained to MiyVue, are: Purple Rain, Purple Heart, Purple Stone, Purple Dove, Purple Rose, Purple Communication and Purple Sugar Mas’.
In attendance of the launch were Carnival Minister, Marcella Liburd; Chairman of the Carnival Committee Clement ‘Monarch’ O’Garro and creators of Fhunn Vybes, local businessman Ashley Allers and Manager of the Nu Vybes International Band, Junie Adams, all of whom offered brief remarks at the event.
Speaking exclusively with MiyVue about the collaborative effort, Allers explained that it was felt that with his 23 years of experience in the mas’ arena and with Nu Vybes’ popularity and drive, an attractive product could be created, thus, Fhunn Vybes.
“It came about because I was a founding member of Phunn Makers and it was felt that we needed to promote mas’ more. So Junie and I decided to come together and form Fhunn Vybes. When we started Phunn Makers it was really about having fun and I really wanted to keep that idea of having fun and so that’s why we decided to keep the fun theme.”
He explained the rationale behind use of the colour purple noting that after giving much thought to the issue, it was discovered that purple is a wonderful colour which has long been underrated.
“We always hear about green and brown and blue and those kinds of colours but we never hear much about purple. Purple is the colour of royalty, passion and fulfilment. We looked at the colour purple and we studied it and we recognized the greatness of it. When we were creating the segments, we also looked at the significance that the colour plays in those areas.”
Commenting specifically on the launch and the public’s reaction to the costumes, Allers said he is encouraged.
“They were well received. In fact we were happy with the persons who signed up on Friday night and after a while we had to ask persons to sign up without even paying because of the number of persons who were signing. I think we got that kind of response because of our price…And once you sign for the parade troupe, you got a free package for the j’ouvert troupe.”
In keeping with the theme of promotion of unity and participation, Allers informed that anyone who is concerned about finding the costume which provides the “perfect fit”-need not worry, as all shapes and sizes will be catered to.
The Fhunn Vybes Carnival Mas’ Band will feature radio sensation Sweet Sister Sensia (Triple S) and the Nu Vybes Band Intl.
