First set of players receive awards for SKNFA ‘Player of the week’ initiative

In a simple presentation ceremony on Wednesday 13th May, National Bank representative Sabrina Vaughn explained that her agency has partnered with football for over two decades and this forms part of the bank’s way id giving back to the community.

“We got on board with the St. Kitts-Nevis football association through a request and also the national bank as you know has always been involved in community development in a number of ways and sports, specifically football. It is just one of those ways that national bank is in association with the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association and the relationship has extended beyond two decades,” she noted.

This is the first time that such an initiative has been implemented by the association and Vaughn indicated that the Bank will be gifting a small contribution.

“We will be gifting the player of the week until the quarterfinals and we are happy to do that,” the bank representative posited.

She continued “No man, no club is an island and we rely on various avenues and we believe that as an institution, that if we make that commitment it can only do good and it can only do the country good, it does out players and the sport of football good as well”.

Travis Rogers of the Rams village Superstars was one of the two players that were recognized for their sterling performance on the field for the past two weeks of matches

The expectation Rogers said is that from this programme, the level of football in St. Kitts and Nevis will be raised to a higher level as more club players will strive to play at their best to achieve the accolade.

“This has something for everybody to look forward to every week individually. It will motivate players to work and play better on the field during play. It is an honor to be nominated and I want to thank the SKNFA and National Bank for contributing to the local league.

While another of those players Attis Hughes of the St Paul’s Fc told the media that he was happy to have received the honor and he said that the achievement will make his club proud.

Attis-Hughes-St-Puals-FC.jpg-2“I see this as being a good initiative being put forward for the players. Being nominated for the first time is an honour for me and for my club who supported me for this wonderful achievement,” Hughes explained.

To this end, he like Rogers disclosed that more players will be working harder on the field of play to come out as the top player for the individual week.

Meanwhile the Association’s General Secretary, Stanley Jacobs explained that his body is extremely grateful for the support the corporate community, most specifically National Bank as they were able to launch the new initiative.

“We believe that it is a good incentive for the players who we know are mature players. And we know that they play the sport for the love of the game and anyway that we can assist in some form of recognition we will do that for their continued sacrifice in terms of their commitment to the sport.”
