For the first time, the Final-4 playoffs are being played in the Warner Park Cricket Stadium, and while the grounds were not packed on the first night’s encounters. Those who came were treated to an exhibition of skills, determination and sometimes downright aggression, of course within the confines of the rules of the game.
The first encounter Conaree vs. St. Peter’s during the first half skillful plays down the left and right flanks were pretty entertaining as the crowd erupted in every attempt at goal. In the end, it was the second half that was most telling as Conaree picked up the pace, and dominated the play that ended with an attempt that found the back of the net.
Inter-match activities featured the recognition of two icons in the national football arena, in the persons of Steadroy Techeira and Anderson Dolphin. Both were honoured for their longstanding contribution in the sport in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Superstars and St. Paul’s United were certainly more aggressive in their play, each side determined to make its mark, and they badly wanted to do so early in the game. The medical attendants were kept busy, as player after player hit the deck. And a brief moment of rain did not dampen the crowd’s spirit or the player’s motivation.
At the end, both teams played to a 1:1 result, as neither team could find their dominant edge.
So it is on to the next fixture, which takes place at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium on Saturday 18.
