Football is costly if you want the right kind of results – SKNFA president

This was disclosed at a Final-4 Press conference held Monday 13, at Football House near Warner Park.

According to SKNFA President Anthony Johnson, the intention is to provide protection of the facility and of players, as for the first time football will be played in the section previously reserved for cricket.

“We have spent considerable sums in order to ensure the cricket pitch itself is protected, that there is no damage, President Johnson said, explaining, “In fact, there will be some artificial matting that will be placed on the cricket pitch to avoid any damage to the cricket pitch, and also to protect our players from the possibility of injury.”

Having gone through a lengthy recovery previously, the grounds of the Football Stadium were again rendered unsafe for play after the hosting of this year’s Music Festival. In spite off the short period after the hosting of CPL T20 cricket in Warner Park, Stanley Jacobs, the SKNFA general secretary, said preparations to host the final-4 play-offs in the Cricket Stadium will be completed on time.

President Johnson emphasized the expensive nature of football as the association strives to maintain required standards, and he took time to highlight some recent or ongoing projects of the Association.

He said, “Football is, indeed, a very expensive venture in order to achieve the kind of results that we want. In addition to Final-4, I take the opportunity to inform the general public that the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association has been working tirelessly in other areas of its development plan.”

Coaster-BusHe indicated that Goal Project II under which FIFA providesd some funding is expected to be completed later in 2015. The Technical Center commenced construction in January in St. Peter’s on a five-acre lot of land leased by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis. Project contractor is Lennox Warner.

Added to this is the recent acquisition of vehicles to serve the needs of the SKNFA.

“We have acquired a 29-seater passenger bus that is to be used to assist the Association with transportation. Transportation is a very high expense item, especially when ensuring movement of players to and from practices when we are hosting international games and tournaments.”

The Toyoto Coaster bus and the Toyoto Noah MiniVan  have a combined cost to SKNFA of US$77,000.
