Former community development minister concerned about Family Park projects

Speaking on Freedom FM’s ‘Issues’, Liburd said that she would ensure that government ministers are accountable in ensuring that this and other projects are carried out.

“I’m going to make sure that their feet are held to the fire with all projects, including the family park,” Liburd said.

She pointed out that several sections of the project are to be completed in the second phase, including the development of the car park in the vicinity.

“As you know, the Family Park still has some other projects to complete it, like the booth that is supposed to go down there for vending, and also the parking lot that is supposed to be done. There is supposed to be continuous maintenance, and there are one or two other things that are supposed to be done to actually complete it. And I am holding them to the fire to ensure that, that is done,” she stressed.

The New Road Family Park was officially opened on the 17th December 2014.

The then opposition coalition team harshly criticized the project for the way the park was being constructed.

However, the park was opened to the public several days after, having received funding to the tune of US$500,000 from the Republic of China on Taiwan, with the Taiwanese providing the manpower to undertake the project.

The park is to be maintained on frequent basis, but according to Liburd, that is not being done.

The development of the park created several jobs available to persons who were trained to be park wardens.
