Basseterre, St. Kitts, Monday, 4th October, 2021, (MyVue football fraternity across St. Kitts & Nevis has been reacting to the sudden death of its former president, Anthony Johnson, who led the organization for over a decade.

News of the death of Johnson began circulating on Sunday night, 3rd October, 2021, indicating that he had been discovered dead at his home in the Frigate Bay area of St. Kitts.

No cause of death has so far been stated and an autopsy is still to be performed.

The governing body for the sport, the St. Kitts & Nevis Football Association, SKNFA, has also publicly expressed its sadness over the passing of its former president, who served in that capacity up to August this year when a new administration was voted into office.

“Mr. Johnson served as President from 2009 to 2021 and was instrumental in the growth of the game of football in St. Kitts and Nevis. We’ll pray for peace and comfort during this time of mourning. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” said the statement from the SKNFA.

One of the projects that held a special place of great importance to his years of service, was the SKNFA Technical Center, located at St. Peter’s. Though not yet fully completed, the former president understood its strategic importance in the advancement of the sport nationally.

Johnson, in the past, also served as president of the once invincible Newtown Football Club, which was the platform he used to launch his bid to lead the sport nationally.

In professional life, Johnson, after graduating from law school in England, worked as a lawyer, starting his career with the law firm of former Attorney General and former Premier of St. Kitts-Nevis, the late  Lee L Moore.

Following the death of Lee Moore, Johnson joined forces with another colleague to establish the firm Dublin & Johnson, before eventually branching out on his own after creating yet another company, Johnson & Associates.
