The competition will be contested by the TIÉ Soccer Team out of Brazil led by former Brazilian player Marcos Alexandre Berdague, the St. Kitts All-Star Team, Nevis All-Star Team and a select team assembled by the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association. The tournament will run from October 09 to 13 with two matches being played every day except on Tuesday, October 11 when no games are scheduled. All matches are free.
“It’s an excellent opportunity for locals to see Brazilian styled football,” Minister of Sport Honourable Glenn Phillip told SKNIS. Chief organizer Eduardo Prada of Prada Sports and Marketing agreed and encouraged residents to get up close and personal with the visiting players.
“I’d like to invite all people to come and watch [the games] and talk to the Brazilians, try to express yourselves, try to communicate,” he stated. “We are very receptive, we love this opportunity to come here and I think the people of the island will love it too.”
The matches will be played under the round robin format where each team will play the others. The top two teams with the most points will go on to the finals. Most of the games are slated for the evening, with the finals and third place match being held at Warner Park on October 13. The full match schedule is available from the SKNFA office on Lozack Road or at telephone 466-8502.
The Paradise Cup is sponsored by LIME, Kajola Kristada and the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. It is jointly organized by the Ministry of Sports in St. Kitts and Prada Sports and Marketing of Brazil.
