The Minister of Education and Information Nigel Carty complimented the teachers for earning the DELF certificate and was full of commendation for the Alliance Francais which he credited for driving the impetus towards enhancing and expanding the reach of French as a second language.
The minister explained why French was an important language to pursue, including the fact that it is the official language of a number of close-by territories; and is the official language of several of our economic partners and cultural allies.
French Teacher Ivan Francis said that what separates the DELF examination is the fact that it is set by actual residents of French countries and is therefore extremely practical in its approach. Mr. Francis said the internationally recognized examinations board, tests students not only on their understanding of the language, but also the French culture.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Mrs. Ionie Liburd-Willett speaking at the ceremony, in which the teachers received their certificates, explained that they were now certified to assess various levels of the DELF examination.
