This update comes after approximately three power outages which place between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 pm on that day.
The Management of the Electricity Department issued a press release dated 8th December, explaining that an island-wide power outage which took place at about 4:18 p.m., was as a result of said fault.
“On Wednesday 8th December at approximately 04:00 p.m. the protection panel at the Needsmust Power Station activated, resulting in the loss of power-island wide. Immediate investigations were carried out by engineers and field technicians and it was subsequently discovered that the cause of the outage was a major electrical fault at Frigate Bay.”
The release indicated that the Power Station’s staff quickly began the restorative process but was prevented from doing so by, “An electrical problem on the Sandy Point Feeder. Said problem was responsible for causing a disruption in supply to some areas which had already been restored. By 08:30 p.m. however, the supply of electricity had been restored to the entire island except a section of Frigate Bay.”
The Management of the Power Station has indicated that according to “preliminary assessments”, the indication is that the Frigate Bay area “will be without power until Saturday 11th December due to the extent of the damage caused by electrical fault”.
The managing body has extended sincere apologies to all its customers located in the disruption in the electricity supply and the inconvenience that this may cause.
