Gesim Fraser, aka Rico Righteous, is a simple young man with big dreams of becoming a successful artiste, but at present the reality is that he has to continue his role as a constable in the St. Christopher and Nevis police force before he could pursue that desired musical career.
Rico Righteous grew up with a strong musical background. In his school days, he joined the school band where he learned how to play the saxophone. After graduating from high school, he then realized that he had a hidden talent for singing.
MiyVue.com caught up with Rico while off duty as a police. He was at the time recording at SKNE Music Studio, where he explained that his fulltime job is what pays for his music, which is at the moment on the sideline.
“Since as a little boy my desire was and still is to be a singer. However, after leaving school and going out into the work world, I found out that becoming a successful singer was a hard task. It takes time and endless effort as well as the finance, which is very costly,” he told MiyVue.com.
According to Rico, he enjoys his role as a police officer but his heart still lies in becoming a fulltime recording artiste.
“Sometimes we have to sacrifice one for the other in order to achieve what one may want out of life and presently I am committed to my role as a police officer until I can realize my dream as a fulltime recording artiste,” he said, adding that it is difficult at times to manage both.
“My working hours sometimes clash with my studio time, where I record tracks, but I manage to make it work by dedicating my off days, to ensure that work is done for my music,” Rico said.
More of a lover’s rock type singer Rico have already recorded various tracks such as “Black woman”, “I love you”, “Angel Eyes” and “Feeling Lonely”, some of which are played on various local radio stations.
Not having much stage performances under his belt Rico wants to expand that area of his music.
“To get opportunities to perform, an artiste must make himself known and I am doing so by having my tracks played on the radio and through other media. I have gotten a lot of compliments on my voice and it really inspires me to push harder… I know I will become that professional singer I want to be, because I am committed to making it happen,” he added.
According to Rico, he enjoys entertaining people with his voice, but until then, it is Officer Gesim Fraser, the aspiring recording artiste.
