South, who operates a decorating and fruit-carving company called Fruitgasm, says he met Tessanne and was drawn to the singer because of her warm personality.
“I decided to do the carving for Tessanne based on the fact that she is not only an exceptional artiste, but also because she has gone through the diamond-making process, meaning that she has fully matured her talent and is now making that journey to greater heights,” he continued.
“Also because I met Tessanne once and she was humble enough to give me an autograph which I still treasure. I always liked her music, especially the alternative section. My favourite song by her is Hideaway,” the artist told The Gleaner.
South says his Tessanne Chin carving has received favourable attention on social network sites and has been viewed by 12,000 persons on Facebook alone.
“The reception for this particular carving has been great. The watermelon carving has gotten a lot of shares and it was truly an honour creating this piece from watermelon because Tessanne sends goosebumps when she sings. She is such a beautiful individual both inside and out,” South said.
The artist also said his company was expanding from just doing fruit and vegetable carvings for events. More information on South’s Fruitgasm entertainment art can be found at http://www.facebook. com/chameleondesign.
“Fruitgasm has now emerged into a stage I refer to as hyper-cube, which means that the brand is being innovative, as I am not only going to do fruit and vegetable carvings, but also other aspects of food,” said South.
