By MyVue Staff Reporter

Basseterre, Monday, 21st November, 2022, (MyVue, 22nd November will be a “big payday” for all civil servants throughout St. Kitts & Nevis. That is when the Federal Government pays out the promised extra month’s salary to its workers.

The measure will also benefit civil servants on the payroll of the local government in Nevis.

This was confirmed by Minister of Finance and Prime Minister, Dr. Terrence Drew, when he spoke on 15th November 2022, at a press conference in Basseterre.

The government is hoping that the extra spending power along with a short-term tax reduction period for VAT, would help to boost economic activity in the country.

“Persons who will be benefiting from this additional economic relief are all public servants, civil servants, Government Auxiliary Employees (GAEs) of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), pensioners, and persons enrolled in the STEP and Peace Programme,” explained Drew.

In addition, he has encouraged statutory bodies “to extend this beneficial economic relief to their staff members as well.”

Tuesday’s payment comes ahead of three VAT Reduction Days that have also been approved by the government- Friday, November 25th, 2022, Friday, December 16th, 2022, and the third on Saturday, December 17th, 2022.

The VAT rate will be reduced from 17% to only 5% at approved businesses.
