The 2013 Grammy Awards will take place Feb. 10 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be celebrating its 55th year. The show will be broadcast exclusively by CBS.
Notable surprises included the omission of One Direction, Carly Rae Jepsen and Gotye in the Best New Artist category. Frank Ocean picked up multiple nominations, an expected development given the strength of his debut studio album, “channel ORANGE.”
Kelly Clarkson also jumped out in front early, earning nominations for Best Pop Vocal Album and Record of the Year in the early portion of the nominations broadcast.
According to the Grammys, the award telecast was viewed by 39.9 million viewers last year which was the largest TV audience in nearly 30 years. A record 160,341 related tweets-per-minute were fired off during the broadcast.
Big winners at last year’s Grammys included Kanye West and Adele, who took home a combined ten awards.
The nominations were announced during the Grammy Nominations Concert Live, co-hosted by Taylor Swift and LL Cool J.
