An official from the National Carnival Committee told MiyVue.com that claims circulating in public that the annual parade had been moved to the Kim Collins or FT Williams Highway are false.
“From the initial stages of planning this year’s carnival, we had discussed a route change for the Grand Parade, but that decision was not confirmed or made public officially by the Carnival Committee,” the official said.
The Carnival official further noted that after careful consideration and analysis, the team decided that it would be best to have both th e Grand Parade and Las Lap, at the same route like past years.
“The route of Parade Day has always been the same. What we wanted to do initially was to see how best we could have made carnival more enjoyable and visible to the public. Year after year we have seen increasing numbers of participants in the Grand Parade but we have decided that the route for will remain as normal,” the official said.
In an exclusive interview with Chairman of the St. Kitts National Carnival Sylvester Anthony, on 14th October, he revealed to MiyVue.com that the committee was reviewing ways to have the parade take a different route.
During that interview, Anthony said that the reason for the committee’s decision to consider a change to the normal route was due to the enormous turn-out of spectators on Grand Parade Day.
When asked on that occasion about the areas in which the committee would choose to move the route, the Carnival Chairman said that the team had received suggestions about the possibility of the Kim Collins and the FT Williams Highway.
