Grant talks irregularities in early polling process in constituency #4

Speaking to, Grant reported that the polls got off to a late start at about 10:30 a.m., as officials coordinated the required boxes and paperwork. With only 18 persons registered to vote early in that constituency, the irregularity occurred when other persons, not on the lists, attempted to vote.

According to Grant some essential services personnel turned up to vote, but they were not registered to vote. In spite of his objections, they were allowed to vote, he said.

He protested and was overruled, also, when the picture ID list was not being used. According to the National Assembly Elections Act, a picture ID list should be used during the voting process.

Reports indicate that the special voting for essential services personnel has been progressing smoothly in most parts of the island, although most polling stations opened late, due to organizational issues.

Nevertheless, Team Unity leadership has expressed concern about irregularities in some constituency polling stations and the lack of transparency of the process. understands that candidates are still without their copies of the list for early voters.

Calls made to the Electoral Office on Friday to clarify the early voting procedures and regulations remain unreturned.
