“We all felt a wonderful, joyful energy while recording this album,” Newton-John, 64, said in astatement. “We want to make a lot of people smile and happy. It’s a project that we’re hoping turns into a perennial, one that can continue to raise money for these causes year after year, a gift that keeps on giving.” Adds Travolta, 58: “My desire was to make This Christmas an intimate album, not something too ostentatious or showy. I wanted people to be able to play it around the house or in the car during the holidays, and make us part of your celebration.”
This Christmas doesn’t just star the voices of Travolta and Newton-John, who look like they’re enjoying a cup of cocoa by a Christmas tree as they open presents on the album’s cover. Even more shockingly, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, James Taylor, and Kenny G also make appearances on the 13-song collection on such classics as “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” and “Deck the Halls.” And there’s a special track for “Grease” fans: “I Think You Might Like It,” a sequel to “You’re the One That I Want,” which was written by the same lyricist.
Proceeds from This Christmas will go to the two stars’ favourite charities, the Jett Travolta Foundation for children’s disabilities and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne, Australia … so indulging in your guilty pleasure is for a good cause!
