Harris Applauds Small and Medium-sized Hotels Supporting Agriculture Sector

The commendation came from Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Timothy Harris who spoke recently on Freedom FM’s “Issues” programme.

Dr. Harris – a senior minister in government – said the hotels are to be applauded for their support to crop, livestock and fisheries sub-sectors and he noted that while the Marriott has not been sufficiently supportive of the agriculture sector, the small and medium sized hotels like Ottleys Plantation, Bird Rock Beach Hotel, Frigate Bay Beach Hotel, Ocean Terrace Inn, Timothy Beach, Rawlins Plantation, and several other restaurants have been very supportive of the sector.

Dr Harris thanked Michael Head, Manager of the Hotel and Tourism Association (HTA) who on 30th March, 2011, at the Agriculture Annual Review and Planning Meeting provided data of the level of support being provided by the tourism sector.

Dr Harris said the farming community is working diligently at food security and noted that in order for this to be successful, there is need for support from the national community.
