Hollywood crowned 2011 TDC Culturama Senior Calypso King

The 2011 TDC Culturama Senior Calypso Finals was held last evening (Friday 29th July, 2011) at the Cultural Complex in Nevis.

The show saw each of the eight (8) calypsonians performing two tunes in efforts to be crowned king.

In round one,  Baker  sang Nothing Wrong Wid Dat, Pupa Wheeler-The Power In You, Dis N Dat – Women, Astro – Me Nevis Face, Hollywood – Hungry, Nutsy – Mother Earth Crying, I Soursop – HIV / AIDS, Our Worst Nightmare,  and Alamoulou  rendered his tune Without Trust.

After listening to each other’s kaiso tune and examining their performances, the calypsonians reentered the stage for the last chance of winning the crown.

Round two began with Baker’s tune Ocracy, which was followed by  Pupa Wheeler singing Fowl in De Box At Cox, Dis N Dat – What Lies, Astro – Signs, Hollywood – Free Tickets, Nutsy – No Retreat, I Sour Sop – Emancipation, and Alamoulou who brought down the curtains with Ring Garden.

Patrons were making their own predictions and calculations as to who would be the 2011 TDC Culturama Senior Calypso King

However, the official judges’ score sheets placed Astro in 2nd runner up with 782 points, former King I-soursop copping the 1st runner up position with 783 points and the 2011 TDC Culturama Senior Calypso crown going to Hollywood with 845 points.

The Culturama Festival continues today with the Cultural Food Fair which will be held at the Villa Grounds starting from 7 am to 12 midnight with an Emancipation Concert at 8 pm.
