The revelation was made by the Public Relations Officer for the Nevis Turf and Jockey Club, Mrs Ursula Huggins-Whitney, who also explained that the event serves as a part of the activities set for Tourism week 2011.
Mrs Whitney who was interviewed on NTV’s Sports Menu program hosted by Sportscaster Curtis Morton revealed that since the heavy rains late last year, the race track has been in deplorable conditions. However, quite a bit of work has been done in recent times and the track is about 80% ready with some more work to be completed in the next few days.
The event will feature a four card race meet with an average of three horses per race. A five furlong race will start the proceedings in race one and the excitement will peek with old rivalries renewed right up to the final six furlong event.
The PRO also revealed that her Association has agreed that they will be seeking to identify Jockeys who will specifically ride at the Indian Castle races hosted by the NTAJC as presently; they can only host a meet when the Jockeys who also ride at the Beaumont Park are available.
