According to a marketing official of the company, Wallis Wilkin, “Horsford’s has been a huge supporter of the development of youth, culture, calypso and carnival over the years with the commitment of hundreds of thousands of dollars to various carnival, calypso and cultural events over the last 40 years and more.
Wilkin explained that this commitment falls in line with the company’s traditional eagerness to support various community efforts.
He added that over the years, S.L Horsford & Company Ltd. has been the major sponsor of many carnival events and cultural groups, including the Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant, Sylvester’s Masquerade, the National Carnival Queen Show, the Miss Culturama Swimsuit competition, various carnival and jouvert troupes as well as many village festivals including Festival De Capisterre and Green Valley Fest.
The official said that it was with this background that the company this year decided to make to make a significant contribution to the Legends Calypso Tent and the Banka Mas Camp.
Over EC$20,000 in cash and kind will be donated this year to various cultural groups, said Wilkin.
The commitment was partly formalized recently when the Calypso Tent and the Mas Camp were presented with their sponsorship cheques.
