Following the draw for appearance order for the 13 finalists held at ZIZ television studio on Tuesday 30th November, Hotrod singing his hit song “Pork for dinner” will take to the stage first. The appearance order will continue with Rico Righteous and Melbo (2), Eazi (3), Mr World (4), Anastasia (5), X-Man (6), Konris (7), Ras Kelly (8), C-Money and Rucas (9), De Provoker (10), Shakki Star Fire (11), Soca Samuel (12) and Shakel and Fire (13) ending the performances.
Representatives from title sponsors Beaumont Park and members of the National Carnival Committee as well as members of the various media houses were also on hand to witness the draw.
“Soca Monarch will be of great quality and great performances.” That’s the response given by all the artistes when asked by MiyVue.com, what can patrons expect on the night of the show.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson for the National Carnival Committee, Shannon Hawley, has ensured that the event will be one of high quality and as stated by the artistes, great performances.
“The standard of the songs that were submitted were of high quality and this goes to show the enthusiasm by these artistes which I know will be displayed on the night of the event.
“We want to ensure that this year the soca monarch is one of the biggest shows for this year’s carnival. We hear a lot about the National Queen Pageant and LIME calypso finals but we want to ensure that the re-birth of the soca monarch is one of the biggest shows for Sugar Mas,” Hawley said.
“Ecstatic” was the word used by representative from title sponsors Beaumont Park, Keithly Nero, to described their feelings about partnering to host the event.
“We believe that this show will enhance our carnival product. When we look at the finalists it is clear that we do have a lot of talent, experience and people with passion for the art form and we are expecting a great show with great performances,” according to Mr. Nero.
The alternates are Queen Kibie and T-Bone. These two artistes were selected in the event that any of the named finalists are unable to perform, they would be replaced by the two in the order named.
The judging criteria for this year’s Soca Monarch is as follows; 40 points for performance, 20 for lyrics, 20 points for melody, 10 for creativity, and 10 for crowd response.
The show will be held at the Warner Park’s football stadium, now dubbed ‘Sugar Mill’, specifically for the carnival activities.
