Basseterre, St. Kitts, 18th February, 2019, (MyVueNews.com) – Residents in the McKnight area of Central Basseterre woke up this morning to the sad news of the death of a husband and allegations that he attempted to murder his wife, following what some claim was a domestic dispute.
Initial reports indicate that it was around 1:30 Monday morning, (18th February, 2019), when the neighbourhood and police were alerted about what was happening.
Though no official police reports were available at the time of this report, unconfirmed details suggest that when police arrived on the scene, they met the man inflicting harm to a woman who has been described as his spouse.
It is also said that he had been using a weapon, (knife) and said to be stabbing her at various parts of her body.
It is said that police demanded that the man stop, but that he failed to do so, and instead started to do harm to himself while also proceeding to do more harm to the woman by cutting her throat.
What followed remains uncertain, but it is said that he then proceeded to cut his own throat and police fired around the same time. The victim fell and was later pronounced dead on the scene. It is not clear whether he died from his own actions or that of the police.
The woman was taken to the hospital, after emergency personnel tried to stabilize her condition.
The incident is said to have taken place at Upper Malone Avenue and believed to have involved parties known as Leroy and Udella Henry.
All this comes at a time when police have been battling a rise in homicides, where there has now been seven murders in 2019.
New measures have also been announced by government to help bring the situation under control.
