Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd endorses Vernon Connor

Speaking on the political platform on Thursday, 22nd January, when Connor was officially launched, Liburd said that he fully supports Connor as the candidate for constituency #6. Further, the very vocal radio personality said that Connor has taught children from many communities around St Kitts, and, with that knowledge, he knows what is needed to develop the youths in St. Kitts and Nevis.

“I believe that we bring to you tonight a young man who cares. We bring to you tonight a young man from your community, and I have every reason to believe that Connor will deliver,” Liburd stressed

Pulling out the punches in Dieppe Bay in constituency #6, one of the island’s fishing communities, Liburd alleged that it was a request by the late “Leaman” to not have fishermen near him, as the reason why there has not been a fisheries complex in Dieppe Bay community, even though that is one of the three areas which was earmarked as a location for the compound.

“I remember that sometime ago the Japanese had promised us three fisheries complexes – one in Old Road. They got theirs. The government acquired some land in Old Road. There were some issues in Sandy Point, because the land was private land in Sandy Point, but when they allocated land in Dieppe Bay just down the road, a man called Leaman… I was at the office with Douglas, and Leaman said to Douglas, he ain’t want no fisherman near him.  That’s why Dieppe Bay don’t have a fishing complex,” claimed Liburd.

However, he believes that Connor is a man patterned after him and as such, he would provide the community with the fisheries complex that was promised.

“I believe that Mr. Connor, as a man of your country, your community, will provide you with the fisheries complex here is Dieppe Bay. I have come here to support him, and I fully support our candidate being launched tonight,” said Liburd.

Liburd said that they have begun the rebuilding process of St. Kitts and Nevis from Sunday last.

“… And remember, we have a country to build, or rather, we have a country to rebuild, because a man mash it up, and I believe that from last Sunday night, we all agreed that when we get on the job, we have to wear our safety equipment and walk with your tools,” Liburd explained.

Connor is expected face stiff competition in the race for constituency #6 from the incumbent Dr. Denzil Douglas, in constituency that has for many years swung the way of the Labour candidate.
