Island Rhythm Hosts Karaoke Competition with a Difference

According to Wayne “Peace ah man” Phillip, entertainment manger for Island Rhythm, a pre-carnival karaoke competition is currently on going, and up for grabs is a cash prize of EC $1,000

The competition which got underway on 3rd December has been well received by the public, Phillip told MiyVue.com.

“In the first round we had 17 participants and a packed house of on lookers. Following the first round 10 singers were selected to go on to the semi-finals.  Each night the singers will sing songs based on the genre of music that we select,” he explained.

According to him, “There are many karaoke competitions, and they all require some sort of registration but we decided to let persons walk in and just start singing their hearts out.”

“I seen where persons risk the embracement and perform before crowds for these types of competitions and even if they win, there is no reward for them. At this competition it is different because there is that cash prize that everyone is singing for,” said Phillip.

“Peace ah man” as he is commonly referred to, commended the participants for their boldness towards the competition.

“As I said before the turn out has been overwhelming not only by the spectators but also those who decided to sing for them. It’s not easy to perform before a large crowd, not even if there is a prize, but for the many persons who entered, I salute them all.”

The semi-final round is scheduled for Friday 10th December and according Phillip, Hip Hop will be the genre of music that participants will have to sing to.
