After casting his vote at the Old Girls Schools, Jonel Powell told MiyVue.com that an updated list was received from the electoral office, but there are still discrepancies with the list. He said that some of the names on the list do not match-up with the ones used today.
“We got a list which was supposed to be the final list of voters last week, although this morning we are now realizing that at some divisions, the final list that was issued to us is different to the list that is being used,” Powell noted.
We are now realizing that numerically, names have been shifted, so the numbers are not matching back, said Powell.
According to him, he has not heard of any individuals being disenfranchised from voting, but he has received complaints of persons having difficulties finding their names on the list at particular polling stations.
“I know a number of persons have come to vote and their names were not on the list. I get the impression that it was legitimate, and I haven’t heard of any complaints of disenfranchisement specifically.
Powell, the People’s Action Movement candidate for constituency #2 is challenging the incumbent Labour Party Marcella Liburd for the Central Basseterre seat.
