Jamaica agriculture minister dies suddenly at Florida airport

Clarke had been in Florida since mid-July where he had undergone surgery for a back problem.

According to unconfirmed reports, he was heading back to Jamaica after the surgery when he died.

Clarke was raised in Glen Islay, Westmoreland, where he helped his parents and grandparents on their farm, growing root crops and vegetables.

Dozens of supporters quickly began expressing their condolences and paying respects to Roger Clarke via social media sites.

According to his profile posted on the Jamaica Information Service web site Clarke “had a successful political career, having won eight elections comprising two Local Government and six General Elections. ”

Before his death he was serving as Vice President Emeritus and is survived by his wife and two children.
