Reports are that Phulchere passed away at his home. In a recent article to promote the Artisan Market showcase at Baywalk, the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), said Phulchere, “known for his caricatures and book illustrations, make him an extraordinary stor teller and Phulart studio is the place where all the magic happens”.
In his biography on artwanted.com, Phulchere described his work: “I’m St. Lucian born ‘self-taught’ professional artist introduced to oil painting by my late father (professional architect/art hobbyist) at a very early age of nine.
I work with a variety of mediums: oils, acrylics, pastels, graphite, charcoal; polyester resin (for relief sculptures) and latex rubber cast. I’m into portraits, landscapes, seascapes; abstract surrealism, caricature/cartoons. “I do book illustrations. My favourite “Old Masters” are Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Michelangelo! Another passion besides fine art is music. I was once guitarist and vocalist for a local musical group. My Art Studio is located in the active town of Gros Islet (in the northern part of St. Lucia.
