On Sunday, 25th December, the National Carnival Committee revealed that there were some 20 songs registered for the Road March contest, with former champions, the Nu Vybes Band, registering 10 selections.
Early public and media feedback coming out of the j’ouvert celebrations gave the edge so far to the Grand Masters Band which was said to have ‘hit the road’ from the early hours of Boxing Day, ensuring that it passed the judging points ahead of all other contenders.
Though the Nu Vybes Band had its usual large crowd, especially of the younger generation; it is the Grand Masters that seemed to have carefully worked out a strategy, that could very well land them another title, by the time the results are known on Last Lap, 3rd January, 2012.
According to Carnival officials, the songs registered for Road march are as follows:
NUVYBES: Irep, SKB Encore, Wickedest Whine, Whining Tournament, Carnival Motorcade, Love Boat, Load It, Bounce Cheque, Electric City and Wet Down.
GRAND MASTERS: None a Them (Step pon dem)
SMALL AXE: Jockey, Sky is the Limit, Drop De Soap, and Red Riding Hood.
MIGHTY HONESTY: Sing Stupidness.
MIGHTY TAKEOVER: Insane.
FANTASTIC TUNDA: Bite and Roll.
NUTSY: 40:40 Mas.
DAVID HANLEY: Carnival is Here Again.
The judging of the Road March started on J’ouvert, between 5:00am and 11:00 am and will continue at the Grand Carnival Parade from 11:00am to 5:00pm, on Monday 2nd January, 2012.
Each Judge will award one (1) score to the tune played at the judging points on J’ouvert and Grand Parade Day. Each registered J’ouvert Band, Sound System; (Road March Contender), must pass each judging point on J’ouvert at least twice.
One notable absentee is that of the reigning Road March Champion Konris who was not registered to be judged.
