Starting on 5th November, the St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association will commence with its Under 20 Junior and High Schools Basketball tournament, in collaboration with the Achievers Sports Club.
President of SKABA, Mr. Romel Tobias has disclosed that registration for the tournament is currently ongoing with 2nd November, set as the deadline for teams to complete all requirements.
Tobias said the competition will first be played following a round robin format before moving into a knock-out stage, after which the top two teams will be selected for a best of three series.
The tournament will be divided into two sections, one for the Junior U20 teams and the other, for the first time, High School teams.
President Tobias explained that the tournament will give all clubs the opportunity to prepare themselves for the upcoming National League in 2012. He added that it will also give the schools a chance to test their skills and standards before they square off against each other again in January of 2012.
“This Knock-Out Tournament will be scheduled to run for four to five weeks surrounding juniors age 19 and High schools. This year we will be having two sections, one for juniors and the other for high schools. This will not limit the schools from playing against the SKABA junior Teams,” Tobias continued
“We are very excited about the high schools section of this tournament, as SKABA in collaboration with the Department of Sports, has been trying for some years to get a High Schools tournament. This tournament upcoming might be the closest that we have seen to a full-fledged High Schools tournament in years” says President Romel Tobias
The registration fee for teams is $100.
The prizes for the junior section of the tournament will be:
- First place is five hundred dollars ($500), a trophy and fifteen goldmedals
