According reports from the police, a juvenile has been taken into custody, following a shooting incident that occurred in the Cayon area on Saturday evening, (7th January, 2012).
Dead is said to be Desroy ‘Piggy’ James of Cayon, becoming the federation’s first murder victim of 2012 but the second in only 8 days; coming just about one week after the stabbing death of a 57 year old man, in the St. Pauls area of St. Kitts. That incident, took place on Friday 30th December, 2011. That victim was identified as Matthew Joseph Murphy.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have arrested and charged Kevin Horstwood on a warrant in the First Instance for the Murder of Matthew Murphy.
However, police have not released the name or other details regarding the suspect they have in custody for Saturday’s killing of the Cayon resident.
Police officials stated that crime scene specialists from the Criminal investigation department are presently examining the evidence gathered and information received which has already resulted in the arrest of a juvenile suspect.
It is believed that James was attacked on Saturday evening, while travelling along a dirt road, close to his home. Reports have stated that he was on his way to the Green Valley Pub for a party.
In 2011 the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis recorded 34 murders which happened to be the most ever recorded in the federation’s history.
