Kalia Huggins Triumphs in National Carnival Queen Pageant

It was one of those pageants where every point counted because the difference that separated the queen from her first runner-up, was only five and a half (5.5) points; five of which came from a special award for being punctual for official events and generally cooperative with the organizing committee. These are points that anyone of the contestants could have captured.

However, after about 3 months of intense preparations and in the spotlight of the nation’s public, the representative for the Development Bank of St. Kitts & Nevis, Miss. Kalia Huggins, a native of Parson Village, located in the North Western section of  St. Kitts, was the one adjudged the winner, from amongst a field of six beauties.

Miss. Huggins captured the Best National Pride for her costume, “St. Kitts in Full Bloom”, earning 85 points. Kalia also earned five bonus points, after she was tied with Ms LIME, Markysa O’Loughlin for the Chairperson’s award. Her overall total was 431.5 points.

First runner up went to Ms. Carib Brewery Trevicia Adams who won the Best Swim Suit and receiving 426 points, just one point ahead of the Second Runner-up, Miss. St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank, Miss Desri Keeva Weekes ,who earned 425 points and the Best Talent award.

Miss. St. Kitts Music Festival, Jody Carter, who captured the Best Interview award, scoring 93.5 points, for that segment, was also chosen as Ms Amity by the other contestants.

The pre-show activities were dominated by Markysa O’Loughlin who won the MiyVue.com/ZIZ Best Radio and Television Interviews and also was named the People’s Choice, for Best Radio & Television Interviews. However, points from these activities did not affect the outcome of the actual show, as the points were not carried over into the contest.

Ms. Kalia Huggins will now walk away with a brand new Hyundai Accent with a value of $70,000, courtesy Hyundai and SL Horsford’s.

On Wednesday the Senior LIME Calypso Monarch will take place at the same venue with eight calypsonians battling for the title and coming up against the reigning monarch, Pungwa.
