Residents of St. Kitts and Nevis can expect some more heavy showers later this week, as a tropical wave move toward the Caribbean, from the Western Coast of Africa.
The tropical wave is located 800 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands, with a location 14.4N 36.4W and winds of 30 miles per hour.
The area of low pressure is moving west northwest at 18 miles per hour according to the latest report from the hurricane center in Miami.
They have also indicated that the wave is anticipated to develop within the coming days, as it progresses across the Central Atlantic.
They added that the system is trying to become Isaac, as it continues moving very quickly toward the west, and although it’s increasingly spinning on satellite loops, there has not yet been a lot of persistent deep convection (thunderstorms) rotating around a center, as is needed for tropical cyclone development.
Residents in the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico are being encouraged to monitor the progress of this system closely. If it impacts those areas, it would do so on Wednesday or Thursday. The first land area to be affected will be the Leeward Islands, with squally weather; how much wind and rain on any particular island, will depend on the exact track and nature of the system at that point, said weather officials.
