Running out of lane 4 Collins looked at ease and was never challenged in the race by any of the other competitors. After two false starts in his heat, Kim remained focus and was able to demonstrate to the western hemisphere his true potentials. Kim won his heat resoundingly establishing a new Pan American Games Record of 10.00 seconds, 200ths of a second from his lifetime best.
Elsewhere Jason Rogers ran a personal best in the 100m preliminary rounds and got to the semi- finals but failed to reach the finals. He competed in the first heat. Jason placed 5th in a time of 10.44 seconds missing his spot in the finals by just 200ths of a second.
Tamika Williams got into the semis also but unfortunately did not make it to the finals. She finished 5th in a time of 11.68secs.
