Kim Kardashian on Raising a Bi-Racial Baby

When asked if she is prepared to raise a bi-racial baby, she responded:

I have a lot of friends who are of all different nationalities and their children are bi-racial so they’ve talked to me a little bit about it and what to expect. The most important thing is, the way I want to raise my children is to not see color. There are experiences that you won’t really know how to prepare for until you really go through it but raising a child in general is challenging. As long as you are open-minded and don’t have any pre-conceived ideas of how you are going to raise your children, it really keeps this broad spectrum. Obviously, you want your child to travel the world and experience different races and different cultures everywhere. So that’s really important to me.

Are we finally in a day and age where Kim and Kanye’s child won’t be considered ‘black’ due to that little one percent rule?

Halle Berry addressed the same issue in Ebony Magazine, when she said that her child would have to decide how she would identify herself in the world:

What I think is that that’s something she’s going to have to decide. I’m not going to put a label on it. I had to decide for myself and that’s what she’s going to have to decide-how she identifies herself in the world. And I think, largely, that will be based on how the world identifies her. That’s how I identified myself. But I feel like she’s Black. I’m Black and I’m her mother, and I believe in the one-drop theory.
