A spokesperson for the group, said they have continued with renewed efforts for improved bonding that will positively project the image of the Federation, while also creating avenues to contribute to the socio-economic and educational development of residents in St. Kitts and Nevis.
To this end, The St. Kitts Nevis Nationals Association-DC, SKANNA-DC, held a meeting on July 7, 2012 at the OECS Building on New Mexico Avenue, Washington DC NW.
The meeting was able to attract an increased turnout of nationals, due in part to a directive given by the recently elected President of the Association, Valda Morris-Slack, urging nationals to invite other nationals to the meetings.
The opportunity was also given for the formal introduction of officers of the Association. Other elected officers are : Vincent Hodge (1st Vice President); Joseph Bass (2nd Vice President); Alice Tyson (Secretary); Shermelle Mulraine (Treasurer); Yvette DeFreitas (Assistant Secretary/Treasurer); Jason Inanga (Public Relations Officer); Peter Huggins (Assistant Public Relations Officer); Anthony Slack (Information Technology Specialist) and George Woods (Assistant Information Technology Specialist). Vince Liburd is an ex-officio Adviser to the Committee.
The President gave updates on the formation of Committees and Sub-committees that will help to drive the Association forward, and members were given the opportunity, according to their skills sets, to choose which committees they desired to serve on, so that maximum participation by all nationals is achieved.
A report was given by the Committee that is planning the 29th Independence Anniversary Service to be held in Washington DC. More information on this will be released as the date draws nearer, promised an official.
The first major event of SKANNA-DC is a Family Fun Day scheduled for August 18, 2012 at Bon Air Park in Virginia. An update on preparations for this event was provided and nationals were able to make an input into how the day will take shape. It is hoped that this event will help to increase the bonds of friendship and will also increase the visibility of the Association in the East Coast of the United States.
