According to the West Indies Cricket Board, WICB, the governing body is continuing its initiative towards educating and enhancing the skills of persons involved in the game, by staging a Data and Video Analysis Workshop, for Statistical Analysts from across the Caribbean.
The Chief Facilitator is Richard Berridge, of St. Kitts, the long-standing Video and Statistical Analyst of the West Indies Cricket Team.
The seminar is being held at the Sagicor High Performance Centre at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies. The WICB has invited several participants from across the region, all of whom were recommended by their territorial boards.
Among the participants are former West Indies Test players Vasbert Drakes, a member of the Barbados coaching staff; and Stuart Williams, the Leewards Islands Head Coach.
The course will cover over 20 hours of core work and has been broken down in several components.
The main areas are:
i) understanding the need for technology in the modern game;
ii) the effective use of technology in the modern game;
iii) capturing data for all versions of the game;
iv) capturing and labelling data from a “live” match;
v) analysing and assessing data;
vi) presenting data for effective use by players, coaches and team officials and match officials.
This is the second Data and Video Analysis Workshop hosted and funded by the WICB. The first workshop was also hosted by Mr Berridge and held in Kingston Jamaica, in October, 2010.
At present, another Kittitian, Trent Sargeant, is currently working as the analyst for the West Indies women team, which is now participating with India in a One Day International series, at Warner Park, St. Kitts.
