Konris accuses opposition of using “unity” to achieve secession

This disclosure was made during a live interview on local radio, on Thursday 18th December.

Maynard explained that Thursday night’s launch of the ”contract” between NRP and Labour is very significant because it signals that the two islands are not separate entities but are joined together.

Maynard said the event was hosted simultaneously “because in our minds we are not thinking about St. Kitts and Nevis as separate entities anymore.”

He however criticized the opposition Team Unity of CCM, PAM and PLP, saying “Their focus is not really about bringing the country together, nobody can fool me about that. They are trying to fool people about what their intensions (are)…” He added that his party and the NRP will do everything they can, so that the opposition does not fool the good people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

According to the former calypso king the event on Thursday 18th December was designed to signal to both islands that “we can collaborate and work together” in “oneness”.

“This Contract for Progress ensures that we have philosophies on both sides of the channel who agree that in order for us to continue… as number one in this region, we have to find ways of how we can collaborate more and work together more, and the event …will signal that we are one St. Kitts and Nevis.”

“What this Contract does (is) it signals a change of perspective and attitude towards ensuring that we remain as one, whereas in the last 15 to 20 years there is a particular party who claims to be a member of Unity, whose modus operandi is secession, yet they are hiding a cloak of what you call a Unity concoction, only to eventually achieve in the end, I think, their ultimate goal of seceding. I am not a part of that… I believe that the Federation is one.”

The launch of the contract for progress event, Maynard disclosed, has been in the pipeline for a number of years now.
